Hot off the Press: MAC Gives Its Lipsticks a MAJOR Makeover

MAC Cosmetics is well known for its sleek black lipstick bullets, which house one of the widest (and wildest) ranges of shades of any makeup brand. But that’s all about to change with its newest fall collection, a vibrant collaboration with famed fashion designer Giambattista Valli. The designer—celebrated for his feminine and floral frocks—is instilling his penchant for garden-inspired shades into this beauty collab with five cheerily colored lipsticks and a crystal glaze gloss. “The color palette for this collection is the DNA of GBV—reds, pinks, corals,” Valli says. “Each color represents pieces of fabric from my dresses, and each is inspired by florals and the beauty of a woman.” And as for the bullets themselves—which, for the first time ever, match the lipstick shades inside—Valli says that was a pointed decision on his part as well. “I see women carrying three or four lipsticks in their bag, and they have to open each one to see the color inside,” he says. “I love the practicality of matching the packaging to the color so a woman can easily just grab it out of her bag.” Us too, Valli—us too.

The collection will be available July 9. Prepare for the stampede.

In the meantime, you can shop MAC’s new collection of Matte Lipsticks ($16).
