Reviewed: MAC’s Cinderella Studio Eye Gloss

As beauty editors, we get bombarded with a ton of new products every day (we know—tough life). “Reviewed” is a new series where we report on some of the best products we’ve tried. Whether it’s a drugstore lipstick that lasted all day, or a hand cream that saved us this winter, you’ll find all of our favorites in this column. Enjoy!

As someone with a very, very small eyelid crease, eye shadows do not spark the same fluttering excitement within me as, say, a new sheer lipstick or deep pore-clearing mask does. I just know that my eyelids aren’t necessarily the best canvas to show off all the shades of a sultry shadow quad. So when I received MAC’s Cinderella makeup collection, I was surprised that I immediately reached for a pretty little pot of something called Studio Eye Gloss ($23). It’s sticky, like a lip-gloss (hence, the name), which initially made me wary about putting it on my eyelids. I’ve always believed glossy lids are best left to runway models or to…actually, that’s pretty much it. But I was feeling adventurous (or bored), and went ahead and applied the sticky formula to my lids.

I think I actually blinked at myself in the mirror afterwards, shocked at the how, well, pretty the product looked on my lids. It was glossy, yes, but not too glossy—a slight sheen, rather than an oil slick. And the faintly shimmery, gossamer-like finish caught the light differently at every angle, like your favorite iridescent shadow had a baby with your liquid luminizer. I could see it layered over other shadows, but I liked wearing it on my bare lids—it’s subtle enough to be daytime appropriate, that way. The only downside is that you do feel the stickiness on your lids—but hey, it’s a small price to pay to look (and feel) like you’ve been touched by fairy dust.
