The "Lob": Meet Hollywood's Favorite Summer Cut (Again)
So you’ve decided it’s time for a summer hair update, but you’re not ready for chin-grazing strands (we get it—going short can be an emotional experience). Enter: the “lob”—or rather, the long bob. “The cut is slightly angled with a shorter length in the back than the front, for a chic, edgy finish,” says celebrity hairstylist Marcus Francis. “It works for many different hair types and textures, from straight and fine, straight and thick, to wavy and thick!”
Falling somewhere between your chin and your shoulders, perfectly tousled, and slightly angled, the lob has officially made a comeback as Hollywood’s favorite summer haircut. Don’t believe us? Just ask Jessica Alba, Emma Stone, and Dianna Agron.

Roberts’ cut could veer into faux bob territory, but we love the elegant look whether or not she went through with the chop.

Francis is actually responsible for Duff’s newly-sheared strands, so of course, we had to ask him how to maintain this type of choppy style. “It’s a really relaxed style,” he says. “Section your hair, starting at the nape of the neck and working your way up to your crown, and use a dry shampoo to target the roots of each section to help give lift.” He swears by Suave’s Professionals Moroccan Infusion Weightless Dry Shampoo ($4).
Still not sure if a lob is right for you? Francis says that they’re the most flattering on people with heart, oval, and square face shapes (click here for our guide on figuring out what your face shape is). Moore’s wavy lob (courtesy of hairstylist Gregory Russell) and deep side part perfectly frame her square-shaped face.
