Holiday Beauty Ideas
Stuck in a beauty rut? It's hard to break away from your tried-and-true cat-eye or go-to red lip, but we're going to bombard you with enough inspiration to turn you into a risk-taker! December's full of cocktail parties and holiday dinners, the perfect excuse to try something new. We've gathered a handful of particularly festive looks; some call for hairspray and a few minutes of your time, while others take practice (we know you can master Kristen Stewart's smoky eye by New Year's Eve!). So read on, and keep in mind that at this time of year, more is more.

    Kristen Stewart

We know you've heard this 100 times, but this smoky eye is actually different. Makeup artist Beau Nelson only applied product on the top lid to keep the look clean, using M.A.C.'s Kohl Power Eye Pencil ($15) in Feline to "sketch out the shape," and the black shade in Nars' Duo Eyeshadow ($34) in Pandora to fill it in. And of course, a few coats of mascara--L'Oreal's Carbon Black Voluminous Mascara ($9).

    Diane Kruger

Hairstylist Thomas Dunkin made a side part in Kruger's hair and tightly twisted a small section away from the face. He pinned the hair in place and sprayed with Sebastian Professional's Shaper Fierce Hairspray ($17).

    Chloe Sevigny

For a retro look, Sevigny smoothed on M.A.C.'s Lipstick ($15) in Pink Nouveau.

    Nicole Richie

Hairstylist Sejii made a high ponytail on Richie and braided extensions into her hair for length. "Start with a tight braid, and then loosen it little by little," he says. Sejii wrapped the braid into a bun and pinned with bobby pins before setting with L'Oreal's Elnett Hair Spray ($13).

    Solange Knowles

Makeup artist Munemi Imai wanted to create a "fresh and healthy" lip look to offset Knowles' kohl-rimmed eyes, so she used M.A.C.'s  Lipstick ($15) in Siss. "I applied it using a lip brush, then tapped on an extra layer with my finger."

It took a lot of product to create Soko's messy pigtail braids. Hairstylist Olivier de Vriendt applied mousse with Bumble and bumble's Surf Spray ($24), rough dried the singer's hair, and then ran Sebastian's Molding Mud ($17) through the ends. Vriendt parted her hair with his fingers, created two braids, and back-combed the ends for staying power.

    Mandy Moore and Jaime King

Makeup artist Liza Zaretsky "layered two blue shades to get the right amount of depth" on Moore's eyes--Make Up For Ever's Aqua Eyes Eyeliner ($18) in Majorelle Blue 15L and Aqua Liner Liquid Eyeliner ($23) in Diamond Turquoise Blue 5. Meanwhile, makeup artist Jenn Streicher used Chanel's Ombre Essentielle Eyeshadow ($29) in Tigerlily on King's lids.

    Teresa Palmer

Makeup artist Melanie Inglessis skipped lip liner on Palmer's pout, just applying Armani's Lip Maestro ($32) in The Red 400--it packs a built-in shine!
