How to Make Metallics Look Neutral
The word ‘metallic’ doesn’t typically imply subtle, but makeup artist Nico Guilis used both bronze mascara and rose gold shadow to give Dree Hemingway an amped up, no makeup-makeup look at last week’s amfAR Gala in New York. “Since the outfit was more masculine, I decided to do a simple and structured makeup look with a muted lip and contoured skin,” Guilis says.
Guilis applied Nars’ Eye Shadow ($25) in Blondie to define and highlight Hemingway’s blue eyes, then reached for Chanel’s Le Volume Mascara ($30) in Khaki Bronze. While black mascara would make her lashes pop, the almost gunmetal-gray-meets-gold formula softens Hemingway’s face. He framed her eyes with well-groomed—and brushed—brows, thanks to Lancome’s Le Crayon Poudre ($26).
