How To Use Shu Uemura's New Eyelash Curler

How To Use Shu Uemura's New Eyelash Curler

There are eyelash curlers, and then there’s the industry standard from Shu Uemura. It has a loyal celebrity, makeup artist, and editor following, and has even garnished mentions in movies like The Devil Wears Prada. So why would they bother coming out with another version? We put the next generation curler to the test.

First off, don’t worry, the new S Curler ($24) won’t be replacing their classic Eyelash Curler ($20), instead it’s another option for those who want a more-controlled curl. It’s a lot smaller—about a third of the size of a regular curler—and allows you to get incredibly close to your lashline, perfect for those with short lashes, an eye shape that doesn’t sync up with the a one-size-fits-all classic curler, or anyone who tends to get pinched with a larger curler.

Start on the outside of your eyes, holding the curler close to your lashline and gently press for a few seconds. Repeat on the mid section of your lashes and then on each working inwards. It takes longer—and a little getting used to—but once you do, you’ll find that you can reach the inner and outer lashes much better. After playing around with it for a few days we’ve decided the best strategy is to use your current curler for an all-over curl, then go in with the S Curler to give the inner and outer corners a boost. Wide-eyed effects, guaranteed.
