    Your Kitchen Is Your Oyster

Broke girls, listen up—your kitchen is your best beauty weapon. That yummy pineapple you just picked up at the grocery store? Put it on your face. The tub of Greek yogurt you’re rationing out for breakfast this week? Put it on your face. Seriously—the contents of your pantry are filled with skin-loving ingredients like lactic acid, probiotics, vitamins, and enzymes that will brighten and tighten your skin. Below, a couple of our favorite ways to channel our inner kitchen beautician:

    Pineapple Anti-Aging Mask
    Clarifying Honey Mask
    Egg White Blackhead Peel
    Brightening Turmeric Mask
    Exfoliating Oatmeal Mask
    Coconut Oil Eye Cream

    Get Iced

Another (free) way to get your glow on? By using the cheapest ingredient of all: ice. Gabrielle Union and Kelly Rowland swear by the pore-tightening powers of ice, and we’re big proponents of it too. Need further convincing? It can do everything from banish eye bags to calm breakouts—click here to find out how.

    Eat Skin Foods

Beauty comes from within—and great skin can, too. We’re huge fans of the idea of eating your way to better skin, mainly because it actually works. Why not kill two birds with one stone, by loading up on foods that also help your complexion? Blueberries are full of antioxidants like vitamin C, which can clear up your skin and eliminate toxins. Dark, leafy greens, like kale, spinach, and Swiss chard, are high in minerals and phytonutrients that make your skin glow. Want a complete guide? We’ve got you covered here and here.

    Get Your Beauty Sleep

Sleep is free—so get a lot of it. According to one study, poor sleepers suffered from more fine lines, uneven pigmentation, and reduced elasticity than those who slept an adequate amount every night. Yikes. Make sure to set enough quality snooze time every night—your skin will thank you. (Just make sure to sleep with your head slightly elevated, so you don’t wake up with puffy face syndrome.)

    Do Your Dew

The number one indicator of youthful skin? That runway model-inspired dewiness. Broke girls (and anyone trying to look more youthful)—a creamy highlighter is your best friend. A swipe above your cheekbones gives you an ethereal glow, a smudge in the inner corners of your eyes makes your look ten times more awake, and a tiny dab on your cupid’s bow makes your lips look plumper (and subsequently, you look younger).

Oh, and mixing some of it in with your foundation? We still credit that as one of the best makeup artist tricks we’ve ever learned. It might be slightly painful shelling out the cash for a quality highlighter, but we promise you this: it’s worth every penny.

(In case you’re not sure where to apply it, we got celeb makeup artist Lauren Andersen to show you the ropes.)

    Know Your Ingredients

So the possibility of La Mer gracing your bathroom counter is low—that doesn’t mean your skin has to suffer. When it comes to products, knowing which ingredients are powerhouse anti-agers will help you choose the best budget-friendly versions in your neighborhood drugstore.

Say, for example, glycolic acid: it’s a skin brightener, and will do wonders lightening your dark spots. Look for it in the ingredients list of your budget skin products, instead of pining over a hundred dollar peel you can’t afford. Another superstar anti-aging ingredient? Retinol—we covered all the basics about this skin savior here.

Remember: there are a ton of wallet-friendly skin products out there that will do more than just hold you over until your salary blossoms. In fact, we’ve gathered some of our favorites ahead—keep scrolling to see what they are!
