How To Get Jessica Biel's Cleopatra-Inspired Look

It turns out it was an ancient Egyptian ruler that prompted the most modern and fresh beauty look of the week. Cleopatra inspired Jessica Biel’s makeup artist, Kara Yoshimoto Bua, to pair the shimmery blue and matte black eyeliner the actress wore to the Museum of Modern Art’s 2013 Film benefit on Tuesday. The results, however, were far from antiquated. In fact, we can’t wait to give it a go this weekend. All the details, including tips you’ll need to get the actress’ natural flush and sleek hair, are in our slideshow.

Bua prepped Biel’s skin with a mix of Chanel’s Sublimage La Crème Yeux Ultimate Regeneration Eye Cream ($225) and rose water, to both tone and hydrate the actress’ skin. We like Jurlique’s Rosewater Balancing Mist ($31), too.

The trick to Biel’s fresh skin is the light, natural finish—so skip foundation. Instead apply concealer anywhere you need coverage, then dust on a pressed powder. Bua used Chanel’s Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour SPF 15 ($58), or try Maybelline’s Fit Me Pressed Powder ($6).

Bua dusted Chanel’s Powder Blush ($43) in Frivole onto Biel’s cheeks for a healthy glow. Sephora’s Colorful Blush ($15) in Apricot Sheen will work, too.

To set the groundwork for a pop of color, Bua contoured Biel’s lids with Chanel’s Quadra Eyeshadow ($59) in Dunes, dusting the darkest shade in the socket and the lighter shades on her lid and brow bone.

Now comes the fun part: Bua applied a thick line of blue eyeliner on Biel’s bottom waterline and under her bottom lashline, extending it out into a point. She used a black eyeliner to do the same thing on top, then met the two on the outer corner. Bua used Chanel’s Long Lasting Waterproof Eyeliner ($30) in Jade and Noir Intense, or try CoverGirl’s Vivid Impact Eyeliner ($7) in Jade and Midnight. Finish with black mascara.

Balance a bright eye with a neutral lip, like Bua did. She applied a nude lip liner then topped with a rich balm. Try NYX’s Slim Lip Pencil ($4) in Beige or follow Bua’s lead and pick up Chanel’s Precision Lip Definer ($29) in Natural.

“You never want a power struggle between your hair and your dress,” hairstylist Harry Josh says, so he opted for straight hair with a simple center part. He prepped Biel’s locks with John Frieda’s Frizz Ease Thermal Serum ($10) and blew her hair straight.

For a smooth finish Josh ran his own Pro Tools Ceramic Styling Iron ($200) over small sections of Biel’s locks and spritzed with hairspray.
