Who says you have to get a professional blowout for big, sexy hair? We enlisted the help of hairstylist Jen Atkin (she’s responsible for the voluminous locks of celebs like Chrissy Tiegen, Emmy Rossum, and Jennifer Lopez) to show us how to get bigger, fuller hair—no salon appointment required.

Start with damp hair. Using a volumizing shampoo and conditioner, like Bumble & Bumble’s Thickening Shampoo ($24) and Conditioner ($26), in the shower beforehand will help boost fullness.

    Spray Texture Spray

Prep your hair with a texture spray, like Kevin Murphy’s Hair Resort Spray. Spritz throughout your strands and take small sections to distribute it evenly.

    Rough Dry

Rough dry your hair with a blow dryer and your fingers, focusing on the root area (you’ll brush out the ends later).

    Section Hair

Use a clip to section off the top half of your hair.

    Spray Sections

Take your beach or texturizing spray and spritz it throughout the bottom section of your hair.

    Blow Dry With Brush

Atkin used a Mason Pearson Brush ($205) to pull the hair taut as she blow dried each section. “This will help give you more texture and fluffiness,” she says. Do this until the bottom section is thoroughly dry, then unclip the top half of your hair and repeat.

    Spray To Finish

If needed, you can take a dry texturizing spray, like Oribe’s Dry Texture Spray ($42), and spray it throughout your finished strands to add thickness.
