The Best Products for At-Home Microdermabrasion
In the grand scheme of DIY beauty treatments, microdermabrasion may not be one you’d consider doing on yourself, but trust us, you should! Whether used as a substitute for a trip to your dermatologist, or as a serious exfoliation between visits, microderm-inspired treatments deliver many of the same benefits, thanks to medical-grade ingredients and advanced formulations.
The products in our slideshow exfoliate the top layer of skin in a similar fashion as traditional microdermabrasion, reducing the appearance of fine lines and pores, while brightening and softening skin. Use up to three a week at night to reveal younger-looking skin—we promise!
Olay Regenerist Microdermabrasion & Peel System ($25)
Olay’s two-step kit makes our skin feel incredibly soft and smooth—and packs enough product for six or seven treatments. Apply a generous dollop of scrub to your dry face and gently massage in circular motions for about a minute. Next comes the serum, which warms and dissolves the crystals, taking with it dry or dead skin.
Dr. Brandt Skincare Microdermabrasion Skin Exfoliant ($120)
Dr. Brandt is known for his specialized skincare products, like this highly effective scrub. It’s packed with pharmaceutical-grade crystals, plus lactic acid, to remove dead skin. Massage onto your damp face for two minutes, rinse with warm water, and apply your regular serum and moisturizer. It can be used three days a week, just make sure you give your skin a day or two between treatments.
DermaDoctor Physical Chemistry ($75)
DermaDoctor’s scrub packs the benefits of a microdermabrasion treatment and peel in one easy step. How? It has a multi-acid resurfacing complex and round beads to loosen and remove dry, dead skin. It’s very strong, so only use once or twice a week.
Boots Total Renewal Micro-Dermabrasion ($14)
Similar to a dermatologist’s treatment, Boots’ formula has aluminum-oxide crystals to refine skin and gently remove dead skin cells. You can use this formula weekly.
Mary Kay Time Wise Microdermabrasion Set ($50)
Another two-part set, Mary Kay’s version includes a creamy scrub packed with tiny crystals and an exfoliating serum, to loosen and remove dead skin. Apply the scrub to damp skin, gently massage, and rinse with warm water. Next, apply the serum to your dry face, but don’t rinse—the formula works overnight!
Philosophy Microdelivery Exfoliating Wash ($27)
Prefer to start slow? This mild cleanser is great for anyone with sensitive skin. Simply swap it in for your nighttime face wash, and soon you’ll have smoother, softer skin. It has a cocktail of gentle chemical exfoliators like citric acids, plus amino acids to nourish your skin.
Kiehl’s Epidermal Re-Texturizing Micro-Dermabrasion ($41)
You can use Kiehl’s one-step formula three times a week for softer, smoother skin. It has natural silica crystals to gently buff away dead skin, shea butter to aid hydration, and willow herb to sooth any irritation.
