If you ask the hair and makeup team at the Victoria Beckham runway show where the inspiration for the beauty look came from, the answer is usually just Victoria.
“These are all things that she’d do herself,” said Redken hairstylist Guido Palau. So it was surprising to hear that the black elastic headbands were plucked from a local drugstore. “It’s not like they’re designer!” Palau said. “You know, the good thing about hair accessories is that if you keep them simple and all black, you can just get them at the drugstore.” He recommends small barrettes and headbands, especially for those trying to grow out their bangs. “It’s a really inexpensive way to create a very chic look.” Try Sweaty Bands’ Wicked Head Wrap ($18) or Goody’s Ouchless Comfort Fit Headbands ($3).
For added polish, Palau used Redken’s Workhorse 12 Hairspray ($17), but the best part about a headband like this (also seen on fall runways from Valentino, Balenciaga, and Nina Ricci) is that even a messy topknot turns elegant underneath a strip of black.
