Five Fresh Looks for Hannah Simone

by Britt Aboutaleb

There are a string of reference images hanging in our studio when New Girl’s Hannah Simone walks in for our shoot—more than one starring Kate Moss. “It’s just not fair,” Simone says, admiring the model’s cheekbones. The same could be said of Simone, especially her hair. The actress, who was born in London, raised in Canada, Cyprus, and India, before happily landing in Los Angeles, sports the thickest, shiniest locks we’ve ever seen. So would hairstylist Giannandrea, we wondered, test run a few new looks?

Armed with plenty of ideas, products, and hot tools, Giannandrea took Simone from a sleek, ‘60s-inspired look to tousled, grungy texture. Before he got started, he coated Simone’s locks in Kerastase’s Volumizing Mousse ($34) from roots to lengths, and rough dried it ¾ of the way. “It’s like building a foundation,” he says. “The diffuser builds volume without stretching the hair.”

Meanwhile, makeup artist Fabiola got down to basics, using shades of brown from Chanel, Bobbi Brown, and Tom Ford to contour Simone’s face with barely-there makeup. “I wanted her to look cool and rock and roll, but used brown instead of black because it’s softer and she has such dramatic features,” she says.
