Reviewed: Elemis Biotec Collection
As beauty editors, we get bombarded with a ton of new products every day (we know—tough life). Reviewed is a series where we report on some of the best products we’ve tried. Whether it’s a drugstore lipstick that lasted all day or a hand cream that saved us this winter, you’ll find all of our favorites in this column. Enjoy!
I've already regaled you all with my love for Elemis products. So of course when the UK-born brand launched a new collection, I had to get my hands on it. It comes with three components—a cleanser, day cream, and night cream all formulated to re-energize your skin (and perhaps as is true in my case, your life).
The brand created the Biotec range to address the way our skin responds to the unique lifestyle each and every one of us leads (how convenient is that?).
I was first introduced to the trio during a bespoke facial, a treatment Elemis is widely known for. First, I had a chat with Georgia Louise, Elemis’s new consulting facialist, and told her all about my skin woes. She took a look under a bright light and agreed with my diagnosis. I have usually dry skin but suffer from annoying congestion around my nose, chin, and the right side of my face (exactly where I hold my massive iPhone 6+). She suggested a treatment, and we got started. Louise said this collection was “designed to switch your skin back on,” as it improves skin function and cell communication to tackle each one of your concerns.
As she applied, foamed, and massaged the new products into my skin, I was immediately taken aback at how luxurious they felt—and how good they smelled. The aroma filled my nose—it's slightly savory, like rosemary and jasmine—and I was set. I couldn't wait to bring the products home.
Keep reading for a breakdown of everything you need to know about Elemis's Biotec collection.
Elemis Biotec Skin Energising Cleanser ($63)
The super-silky cleanser is charged with a trio of acids (succinic, lactic, and ferulic) to give that deep cleanse, getting rid of oil and impurities while rebalancing your skin. The key ingredients are electrolytes, minerals, and those wonderful acids, which work together to leave you looking fresh, energized, and revived. As you apply it to damp skin—you'll need about two to three pumps—the gel instantly begins to foam and gently wash away the day (or night's) dirt and bacteria.
Elemis Biotec Skin Energising Day Cream ($120)
Scientifically proven to increase cell energy, this day cream is powered by encapsulated zinc, copper, and hydration to visibly improve your skin tone. The magic is in the two tubes—it keeps the ingredients separate from each other so when you combine the blend between your fingers, it's more concentrated and beneficial for your skin.
Louise explains, “This is ideal for those who are short on time in the morning, as it operates as a serum and moisturizer in one—the green chamber with a powerful boost of cooper and zinc mixes with the moisturizing white chamber, which contains a light but nourishing anti-aging day cream to push the energizing and radiance boosting actives.”
Elemis Biotec Skin Energising Night Cream ($136)
As we age, our lifestyle changes—which leads to dull-looking skin. Those changes include UV exposure, wrinkles, stress, poor diet (on occasion), and all our lifestyle stuff that comes into play. Basically, this night cream reverses all those things. The formula encourages the skin to perform its key functions, including repair, protection, and turnover as you sleep.
“The night cream contains potent phyto-bioactive to help support cell energy as well as calcium PCA to boost nourishment and vitality as you sleep,” explains Louise. It allows the skin’s barrier function to reinforce, keeping your complexion smooth throughout the night and into the morning.
I’ve even gone so far as to read dozens of reviews of this collection and everyone seems to agree: This stuff works.
