DJ Chelsea Leyland's Party Tricks

by Britt Aboutaleb

Chelsea Leyland moved to New York from London post-high school, to study acting at the Lee Strasberg Theater, and was DJing for Valentino within a couple of years. Fast-forward to 2013 and it’s hardly a fashion party without her. Leyland’s stellar spinning skills and innate sense of style have made her an integral part of New York’s party scene, but her thick blonde locks—often dyed varying colors of the rainbow—and bold red lips put her on our radar.

This week alone, she’s spun for ELLE, Theyskens’ Theory, Purple Magazine, and LuLu Frost. So how does she stay party ready? The only rule Leyland follows is choosing between a smoky eye and a statement lip: “I like them both equally,” she says, “but I would never wear them at the same time.” She leans toward the latter, attributing her penchant for color to French fashion (and women), choosing from the darker end of the spectrum at M.A.C. and Nars. As for that hair, “I tend to leave it naturally curly on most occasions, but my go-to party trick would be pinning it back into a top-knot.” She uses It’s A 10’s Leave-In Conditioning Spray ($18) every single day, calling it nothing short of a “miracle.”

As for her permanent glow, there’s one beauty rule Leyland loves to break. “The best beauty advice I ever received? Don’t put your face in the sun…I never listen.” More of her favorite products, below!
