12 Desk to Date Beauty Tricks Our Editors Swear By
“If I can only apply one thing before I leave the office for a date, it's definitely fragrance,” says Byrdie editor, Lexy Lebsack. “One spritz in my hair and one on my neck helps me change gears and feel refreshed. My favorite scents right now are Tom Ford Tobacco Oud ($210) and Bottega Veneta Eau De Parfum ($110). The second best thing is a kohl eyeliner. It doesn't have to be fancy, but it does need a smudger, since you probably don't have a Q-tip or brush handy for blending.”
“I spritz this on when I'm done touching up my makeup and it makes me look like I just came from the beach,” art director Lola Gonzalez says of Caudalie’s Beauty Elixir ($18). “But like in the movies, not in real life. And it smells great!”
Co-founder Hillary Kerr says, “Two things are necessary: more lashes and a smidge of lip stain. A couple of extra coats of mascara are a necessity—at least, if you’re a lash-batter like me—and a lip stain gives you some come-hither color without any noticeable product. Because let’s be honest: it’s hard to flirt if you’re worried that your lipstick’s smeared on your teeth.”

Who What Wear’s senior editor Nicole Kliest perfects her skin pre-date. “I brush on Bare Escentuals' Mineral Veil ($20); it evens out my complexion and lets other things like lipstick and mascara stand out. Also, I'll wipe off my mascara and reapply it. My lashes look less clumpy—and just fresher—after I do that.”
Who What Wear’s associate editor, Kat Collings, employs two tricks when running from the office to a date: “Change your part. By the end of the day my hair gets rather flat, and the fastest fix is to make a new part opposite my current one.”
Then she dabs a light eyeshadow into the corner of her eye. “It makes you look instantly more wide-eyed, which is key. I like Laura Mercier Eye Basics ($25) in Linen.”
“Earrings add a little sparkle to my face, especially if my hair is up and I’m feeling a bit dull at the end of the day,” says senior graphic designer Sarah Chiarot. “These are dainty and don't feel too dressy.”

A ponytail and some liquid liner, that’s what Who What Wear’s fashion assistant Michelle Scanga employs post-work. “I’ll have fun with it and style my hair up in a playful but polished ponytail in place of my typical ‘do. And I’ll use a thin line of Revlon’s ColorStay Liquid Liner ($5) in Blackest Black instead of my everyday eyeshadow to make my eyes pop.”
“I find a quick session with an eyelash curler makes all the difference between tired, been-staring-at-a-computer-screen-all-day eyes and a refreshed set of peepers,” says Who What Wear’s senior editor, Evvie Crowley. If it’s been a particularly long day, Crowley also uses Systane Ultra Eye Drops ($18).

“Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer ($24) is your best friend,” says entertainment director Danielle Nussbaum. “It’ll cover anything that’s popped up during the day—and it stays on forever.”
