4 Ways to Cleanse After a Big Holiday Meal
The Christmas cookies have been eaten, the latkes have been topped with sour cream and gobbled up, and the holiday cheer has been drunk (perhaps a few times over). After all of the heavy calories, sugars, and carbs we've consumed in way too short a time period, we're feeling a bit self-conscious about our waistlines. It's easy to experience that post-holiday guilt, but we're here to tell you that the guilt need not endure. We've rounded up some easy-to-follow tips for cleansing your body and getting yourself back into a good groove for the new year ahead.

Peter Bennett N.D., Stephen Barrie N.D., and Sara Faye, authors of The 7-Day Detox Miracle ($17), explain that flushing out the system can be done within—you guessed it—one week. For starters, kick your coffee, alcohol, and sugary drink habit and replace it with two quarts of water each day. Martha McKittrick, a dietitian in New York City, says that water helps flush out sodium and makes you feel fuller at meals. We'll take it!
It's true—your liver filters out alcohol, which you may have had a lot of during the holidays, but it also filters out all other toxins going into your body. As such, sipping on green tea is a great way to reboot your liver to improve its detoxing function. According to Dr. Edward Group, green tea is "full of plant antioxidants known as catechins, a compound known to assist liver function." Tea time, anyone?
McKittrick recommends stocking up on healthy foods like fruits, veggies, and lean protein. "If you don’t have the right foods around, you can’t eat them!" she explains. Vegetables like artichokes and broccoli are excellent for detoxifying the body and giving you healthy fuel.
