Could This Iconic Perfume Become Unavailable?
One of the world's most iconic perfumes could be threatened by an infrastructure issue. Chanel No. 5, created by "Coco" herself in 1921 and worn by some of the most alluring women through history, might be temporarily unavailable due to plans to build a new railroad in France.
The proposed high-speed TGV train line would cut directly through Chanel's flower fields in Grasse, dubbed the perfume capital of the world. How much could this interruption impact Chanel's production? It's said that a thousand flowers and a dozen May roses go into each bottle of the famous fragrance. According to The Telegraph, Chanel has threatened to leave its historic Provence fields unless the building plans are dropped. It's unclear for how long production will be stalled if the brand does decide to move elsewhere.
