Who knew an ombre, braided ponytail could look this chic? Slicked back into a tight, high ponytail and then braided all the way down, Eva Longoria’s hair was the vision of polished perfection at the 2014 AFI Life Achievement Award Gala Tribute earlier this month.
For all the daytime BBQs and pool parties summer throws your way, take a cue from Busy Philipps’ elegant milkmaid braid (which was created by hairstylist Sarah Potempa) at the recent Veuve Cliquot Polo Classic. Not only does the hairdo look amazing, it’s also a practical way to beat the heat and keep hair out of your face and eyes.
Though her dress was a dramatic low-cut number, all we could notice was Behati Prinsloo’s breathtaking fishtail side braid at the Fragrance Foundation Awards this week. Created by hairstylist Frankie Foye, Prinsloo’s sideswept bangs and face-framing pieces epitomized bohemian glamour.

At the Once Upon A Time photo call during the 54th Monte Carlo Television Festival in Monaco last week, Jennifer Morrison kept gorgeously blown-out locks down with a small front-braided section for a little twist. Together with her glowing skin and sheer-nude ensemble, the look was downright ethereal.

Everything that’s old is new again—and that applies to crimping the front of your braid crown. Yep, you read that right! Emmy Rossum’s thick Heidi braid at the CFDA Awards stood out in a sea of unique hairstyles thanks to a crimped side-swept front. Hairstylist Christopher Naselli used Serge Normant’s Meta Lush Voluminzer ($23) and Oribe’s Soft Lacquer Heat Styling Hair Spray ($33) to give her hair texture before crimping and braiding it, and the resulting style had the sort of depth and texture we can totally see Khaleesi wearing (the best compliment of all).
Cate Blanchett generally nails it in the beauty department, and her hairstyle at the 2014 Women In Film Crystal + Lucy Awards was no exception. Looking every bit the modern-day Grace Kelly from the front, the back of her classic hairstyle was actually an edgy braided twist. Bravo, Blanchett, Bravo.
