Here's Why Everyone Is Paying Attention to This Blogger's Makeup-Free Selfie

Kaitlyn McLintock

Here at Byrdie, we love the no-makeup selfie movement. Just look to celebs like Gwyneth Paltrow and Alicia Keys, who've gracefully unveiled their natural beauty in front of the public eye. (And may we always remember Keys's choice to attend the VMA's sans makeup.)

The latest beauty influencer to take part in the #nomakeup movement is Insta-famous Australian blogger Beck Lomas. The 22-year-old has over 155,000 IG followers, to which she serves aspirational fashion, fitness, and beauty inspo. Recently, however, she took a break from her usual posts to share a completely barefaced selfie. In the post, she opened up about her personal struggles with acne and low self-confidence, as well as how she’s overcoming these issues to become a more confident person. To see someone who normally looks so perfectly polished become this vulnerable on social media was a true breath of fresh air.

Lomas took this opportunity to get real with her followers about her struggle for self-confidence. In the caption, she explained her decision to post the photo.

"My skin will always be a journey in itself, I don't think I will ever be one of those girls who feels completely okay without makeup, but that's fine… just because I'm not completely confident with my skin, doesn't mean I'm not a confident person. I've come a long way from the girl who used to cry every single night about the way her skin looked."

Beck's post is important because it proves that no one is immune from insecurity, not even beautiful, seemingly ultra-confident Instagram queens. As Lomas put it, "Happy people are the most beautiful people … don't let your imperfections kill your confidence!" Preach, girl.
