11 Beauty Products Byrdie Editors Are Buying for Fall
It's almost fall! You know what that means: leather jackets, good hair days, apple picking, pumpkin carving, leaves crunching—the works. I am completely and utterly obsessed with fall. And, dear readers, as the season changes, so must your beauty routine. We're swapping our light summer moisturizers and sweat-proof highlighters for their cold weather–appropriate counterparts. If you couldn't already tell, I'm psyched.
Below, we've listed the products we can't wait to use up until the very last drop. From mascara and lip balm to eye shadow and mascara, these are the offerings Byrdie editors are dreaming about for fall.
11 Beauty Products Byrdie Editors Are Buying for Fall
Byredo Unnamed perfume ($230)
I am a full-fledged perfume hoarder but pretty much only wear two kinds of scents: smoky-sweet perfumes and flower jasmine-tuberose potions. This is neither of those scents, but I can't stop spritzing. With notes like pink pepper, gin accord(!), orris stem (I had to google it too—it's rootstock of iris, which may or may not clear things up) and tree moss, it's a lush, addicting scent for every season, but especially perfect for fall/the start of cuffing season. Plus, founder Ben Gorham left it unnamed so that users can call it whatever they want (I'm still debating mine… The pressure!).
Clarins Boosters ($39)
These little guys give any of your existing skincare products superpowers. Repair is perfect for tired skin after travel, Energy brightens dullness, and Detox helps your skin recover after too many gin and tonics. I’ve been mixing and dropping them into my moisturizer and even foundation and they’ve kept my skin looking dewy and not zombie-like through a cross-country move.
Eve Lom Intense Hydration Serum ($95)
As the weather changes, I make sure to keep my often dry skin as hydrated as possible. This season, I've gotten into serums (I'm another year older, after all) and have my eye on Eve Lom's Intense Hydration offering. Clinically proven to increase your skin's moisture levels by up to 80% in just two hours (wowza), the formula plumps, smoothes, and hydrates courtesy of everyone's favorite naturally occurring ingredient: hyaluronic acid.
Rms Beauty Eye Polish in Lucky ($28)
I'm not much of an eye shadow gal, but for fall, I've vowed to be more experimental with my beauty look. Enter RMS's new sheer, metallic cream shadow. It's super subtle and completely foolproof to apply. Just a few swipes (your fingers work best!) and your lids will be glossy, glowing, and delightfully light-reflective. Plus, if you're trying to show off those baby blues, this is just the ticket.
The Body Shop Lip & Cheek Stain ($16)
As a matte lipstick devotee, I never thought I'd say this… but I'm starting to get into stains. My former philosophy was "go bold or go home," while now I'm finding myself more interested in a "less is more" vibe. Though I'll never give up my mattes, this fall, I'm swapping them out in favor of a popsicle-stained pout. The Body Shop has really great options (I'm especially fond of the Bright Peony) because they're exquisitely understated but warm just the same. I picture it with a cozy gray sweater and a steaming hot cappuccino that won't have lipstick stains on the mug.
Tom Ford Extreme Mascara in Mocha Rush ($45)
Big lashes are paramount in my beauty look—usually I go for the inkiest blue-black formula I can find. For fall, though, I'm interested in trying this mocha-colored option instead. It'll warm up my complexion on those brisk days when my skin is tired and sallow.
LXMI Pure Nilotica Melt ($64)
I'm excited for this product (which launches on September 23) as much for the story as for the formula itself. This is a pure, unadulterated (and very rare) shea butter the company's founder, Leila Janah, discovered in Uganda. There's only one ingredient on the list: 100% organic Vitellaria nilotica fr
Chantecaille Protect the Lions Eye Palette ($85)
If you couldn't already tell, I'm pretty jazzed this fall about luxury beauty products for a cause, and this decadent eye shadow palette from Chantecaille is right on theme. First of all, my inner cat lady is obsessed with the lion shapes sculpted into each dazzlingly shimmery shadow. But I also admire the fact that 5% of all proceeds from the product will be donated to the Lion Guardians organization (which, at $85 a palette, adds up pretty quickly).
Hydraganics Sculpted Lip Oil ($16)
I am definitely a lip balm junkie and own plenty of products both liquid and solid, but I don't yet have a solid lip oil that's as lightweight and moisturizing as this one. What I love is how simple the ingredients are: just beeswax, shea butter, and a constellation of oils like olive, coconut, and jojoba. It feels buttery yet non-greasy. Excited for this to launch on September 28.
Dr. Jart+ Dermaclear Micro Milk Peel ($42)
I've been really into at-home peels lately to help clear blackheads and make my skin shine bright like a dia-mund, so you can imagine my excitement when I was gifted Dr. Jart's new Milk Peel backstage at Opening Ceremony spring 2017. First off, I'm a sucker for good packaging, and the frosted glass bottle that the milk comes in is so luxe. Plus, it comes with dual-sided cotton pads (a coarse side for normal to combo skin and a smooth side for sensitive skin) to apply the solution. The best part is it's so gentle that it doesn't tingle or sting in the slightest—it just feels really calming and refreshing. It's the most divine mixture of gentle acids and coconut milk to make you feel like you're in a high-end spa… even if you're just in your tiny NYC apartment.
Benefit They're Real Big Sexy Lip Kit ($29)
It's not out until October, but it'll be well worth the wait. The product is so much and yet so genius. It's lip contouring without all the fuss. The teardrop-shaped lipstick features two shades in one. The tip of the teardrop is a darker coordinating shade, so when you apply it, the darker shade "lines" the lip line, and the light shade fills the interior of your lips. The effect is subtle and natural (aka perfect). Plus, the lipsticks are flattering, hydrating, and long-lasting. Check out the Facebook Live we did with Benefit's global makeup master, Jose Rivera, for a closer look.
