How to Recreate Bella Thorne’s Double-Flicked Cat-Eye
In case you missed it, we tapped actress and songstress Bella Thorne to style some of fall’s best fashion trends on our sister style site, Who What Wear. While we loved the cozy plaid and checkered coats from the shoot, we couldn’t help but zero in on the badass, double-flicked cat-eye (we are beauty editors, after all). We spent a good five minutes marveling over the intricate lines and bold pop of blue, until we decided to ask makeup artist Melanie Inglessis how she created the look.
“The look is totally ‘60s mod and retro-inspired.” Inglessis says. “The pop of blue is what makes it current and modern—if I had done it in black, it would have been a bit too retro.” So what, pray tell, was the liner she used to create this look? She says it was a two-step process. First, she took Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide-On Pencil ($20) in Abyss and traced it along her lash line in a traditional cat-eye. To make the color pop more, she says she always goes over pencil with liquid liner—the Make Up For Ever Aqua Liner ($23) she used had a shinier, metallic finish. “It reflects nicely and doesn’t smudge,” she says. Then, she used the liquid line to draw a line connecting with the end of the cat-eye and going towards the inside of her eye, slightly above her crease. “For anything that isn’t perfect, use a Q-tip with makeup remover to clean up,” she says. “You can correct all your mistakes with it—it’s easy to erase, elongate, and correct.” We have a feeling our Q-tip stash will be considerably smaller after attempting a look like this, but we might just give it a try.
