Beauty Trend Forecast: What to Expect in 2016
In 2015, we saw lots of shaggy lobs, full brows, and even fuller lips. Whenever a new trend emerges, we start following its impact faster than Kylie Jenner's lip kit sold out (the first time). It's our investigative beauty duty, after all, to examine the ebbs and flows of the latest hairstyles, makeup, and products, and we're always chomping at the bit to be on top of the next big trend. Which is why we feel a bit mischevious to have gotten the inside scoop on what top beauty experts think will be the hot-ticket beauty looks in 2016, as if we were able to take a peek into Pandora's box before a Kardashian-Jenners even jumped on board.
To see what they predict are going to be the biggest beauty trends next year, keep scrolling!
Celebrity makeup artist Fiona Stiles foresees heavy contour being a thing of the past: "One thing I do think will change is how people apply contour. I feel like there will be a trend toward a sheerer application of contour. Just gentle subtle shading paired with freshly flushed cheeks so the contour looks soft, flattering, and believable."
While Stiles recognizes that the heavy "illustration feeling makeup from Instagram" will still be popular, she's foreseeing fresh runway faces in the mix as well. Time to really start perfecting our skincare routine!
L’Oréal Paris celebrity makeup artist Sir John (oh, you know, just the guy who does Beyoncé's makeup) predicts a surprising look on the horizon: "Gray lips are going to be a big trend. This '90s vibe is very chic yet futuristic."
Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick ($21)
"Liquid lipstick is going to be huge. This trend definitely stems from all of the girls on Instagram. They use liquid lipstick shades to define their lips with a great color payoff," explains Sir John. Too Faced's Melted series is a great place to start if you're thinking of jumping on the liquid bandwagon.
"Korean beauty is also going to continue to be a hit next year, for sure. I am so excited about everything they are cooking up over in Korea. Essentially, they are the Olympic arena of beauty. The products that are coming from there have the best packaging and textures," says Sir John.
Sir John also foresees bright shades on the eye, like a lavender wash on the lids for a "cool pop of color and fun color palette."
Another big eye trend Sir John predicts? Invisible sculpting: "Invisible sculpting is when you use shades that don’t have a lot of color but allow you to shape the eye."
Soleimani also predicts fresh faces with a pop of color, like a sky-blue liner on the eyes or an outstanding bold lip.
Wondering what the lip palettes are going to look like in the coming year? Soleimani says unsurprisingly, they'll be bright and bold: "For lips, I expect we’ll see shades of orange, pinks, crimson, and oxblood."
