Ash-Blonde Hair Is the Color You're Seeing All Over Pinterest

As of late, we've been noticing a pattern all over our social media feeds: Blonde hair is going from warmer tones to much cooler ones. Our favorite celebrities have caught on, and we've been seeing it all over the red carpet and in paparazzi shots too. We're not going to lie—we're really loving it. The trend is ash-blonde hair, and we have a strong hunch it's here to stay.

"Ash-blonde hair is a much cooler color tone than normal blonde hair. It is the opposite of gold-blonde hair," says Cutler Salon colorist Carly Militello. "Blonde tones are on a spectrum of warm (honey, gold) to cool (wheat, cool beige, ash). Ash is the coolest of all the blondes. In extreme ashy blondes, the color can look white (platinum) or gray."

Not to deter you, but something to keep in mind is that ash-blonde hair requires a little more upkeep than other blonde tones. "Naturally, hair color's nature is to fade to warm, so ashy tones may need special shampoos that act as an extra ash glaze in between your color services," says Militello. "The most important thing to keep all color on tone is a professional brand of shampoo and conditioner. Cheaper shampoos can make color brassy."

With that in mind, if you're looking to try this cool hair trend, we've rounded up hair inspiration for you.
