One of the biggest nights in music also brought us one of the best nights of red carpet beauty. Despite the rainfall, the 2016 American Music Awards kicked off with impressive arrivals from our favorite stars. While stunning on the red carpet with impeccable style, these ladies had beauty looks to match. Here are the hair and makeup stylings that captured our collective gaze before the ceremonies even kicked off.
See below for the most head-turning beauty looks of the evening.
Co-host Hadid's many outfit changes were the talk of the evening, but we, of course, were laser-focused on the accompanying beauty looks. Her first getup of the night: This va-va-voom hair and makeup, complete with contoured red lip and big, '70s-inspired curls. Using icon Lauren Hutton as his inspiration, hairstylist Bryce Scarlett blew out the model's locks by directing his round brush away from her face, and he used loads of thickening spray once it was dry. To finish off, he used ghd Soft Curl Iron ($199) to create big waves before brushing them out. And her lipstick? A $6 drugstore favorite.
Chrissy Teigen certainly turned heads in her daring dress which hairstylist Jen Atkin describes as "very '90s Naomi Campbell, which immediately inspired me to create this sleek straight look." To achieve Teigen's shiny locks, Atkin applied a combination of Ouai Hair Oil ($28) and Tresemmé Tres Two Extra Firm Mousse to damp hair then blow-dried straight. She smoothed flyaways with a toothbrush sprayed with Tresemmé Climate Protection Hairspray ($6) then completed the look with more hair oil for a glossy finish. As for makeup, Teigen certainly made a beautiful case for tawny-brown neutrals, no?
After taking a much-talked-about break from the industry, Gomez made a grand and gorgeous return to the red carpet—and her look certainly didn't disappoint. From perfectly groomed brows to an effortless yet polished pony, her hair and makeup were utterly on point.
Kloss's slick pony put her creamy complexion and look-at-me lashes on full display.
Would you be so bold to try this temporary lip ring?
True to her retro aesthetic, a curled coif was the focal point of the singer's look. (And the pink eyeliner? The perfect head-turning detail.)
Icy-blond hair makes enough of a statement on its own—no bold makeup required. (Keep flyaways at bay with Bumble and bumble Straight Blow Dry balm, $31.)
Hairstylist Chris Appleton dressed up Grande's signature pony with tiny cornrows and an impossibly glossy finish. His secret? Color Wow Pop & Lock High Gloss Shellac ($18).
Hello, magenta lip! Get the look with Urban Decay Vice Mega Matte Lipstick in Crank ($17).
Even a wide-brimmed hat couldn't hide Gaga's flawless complexion. Marc Jacobs Beauty makeup artist Sarah Tanno prepped the singer's skin with Marc Jacobs Beauty Under(cover) Perfecting Coconut Face Primer ($44), followed by a couple pumps of Genius Gel Super-Charged Oil-Free Foundation ($48). Next, she spot-corrected with Marc Jacobs Beauty Remedy Concealer Pen ($39), and she finished off with a dusting of Perfection Powder ($46).
The expectant singer kept things simple with a piece-y pony and neutral makeup.
The singer's red-tinged eye makeup was the perfect contrast to her white getup.
Our favorite part of Taylor's high-octane look: her wet-look locks.
