Reviewed: Allies of Skin Promise Keeper Blemish Facial

Lindsey Metrus

As beauty editors, we get bombarded with a ton of new products every day (we know—tough life.) Reviewed is a series where we report on some of the best products we've tried. Whether it's a drugstore lipstick that lasted all day or a hand cream that saved us this winter, you'll find all of our favorites in this column. Enjoy!

Listen—sometimes beauty editors don't follow all the rules. I often preach the importance of washing your face every single night, being sure to not leave a stitch of makeup behind, but then cut to me passed out on the couch at 4 a.m., remote still in hand, an eighth of a glass of cab on the coffee table, and a full face of makeup still on my face. Do accountants always balance their checkbooks? Probably not. Moving along.

So on days when I do wander off to Snoozeville before going through my (usually) regimented routine, I'll wake up the next morning with teeny-tiny bumps, visible blackheads, and overall dullness. It's in these cases that I call for a skin SOS—something that will rapidly unclog my pores and get my skin back to normal in the time it takes to check my morning emails. It sounds too good to be true, but with Allies of Skin's new Promise Keeper Blemish Facial ($120), it's possible.

Formulated with a powerful blend of AHAs, enzymes, antibacterial cell cultures, and probiotics, this mask has just about every element necessary to exfoliate, unclog, and brighten your skin. And although it's technically an overnight mask, I notice results after just 30 minutes or so of application, then I let it continue to go to work all day long.

Bonus: The consistency is essentially a luminizing moisturizer, such that I don't need to fear stickiness or greasiness under a layer of foundation. (Of course, leaving it on for an entire eight hours' rest sans makeup amplifies results tenfold.) Now, I know using this mask as a reactive measure isn't insurance for good skin in the long term (consistently sleeping in your makeup does scary stuff to your complexion), but at least I know that when I do slip up here and there, this trusty tube will respond to my waving white flag right away.

Next up, take a look at some of the other products we fell in love with this month.
