Product Review: Algenist Liquid Collagen Serum
As beauty editors, we get bombarded with a ton of new products every day (we know—tough life). Reviewed is a series where we report on some of the best products we’ve tried. Whether it’s a drugstore lipstick that lasted all day or a hand cream that saved us this winter, you’ll find all our favorites in this column. Enjoy!
Maybe it’s because I’m an L.A. girl. Maybe it’s because I’m a beauty editor. But I have an obsession with preventing wrinkles. Full disclosure: I am 25 years old. While there will be plenty of you who will say I am way too young to worry about fine lines and saggy skin, it’s hard not to think about it when you were born and raised in the land of plastic surgery and botox and have a career in writing about skincare.
This isn’t a case of ageism. I know I will eventually age, and I don’t fear wrinkles enough to want to look like a human Barbie. I’m just all about taking care of my skin. So for now, short of going the Botox/filler route, I test out serums and moisturizers that promise to firm my skin and keep its elasticity. Until I tried the Algenist Genius Liquid Collagen, I had never noticed a difference, but now I’m a believer.
First, liquid collagen just sounds cool—it’s an innovative formula that delivers collagen to your skin without a needle. The serum itself is made of 13,000 naturally sourced microalgae oils, omegas 3, 6, and 9, and vitamin E. After using it for about a week, I noticed my skin felt softer and my complexion is brighter. Since using this product, more people are asking about my skincare regimen, and I couldn’t be happier.
It’s a little pricy at $115, but I think it’s worth every cent. My only gripe with this product is that the dropper is difficult to use. I often forget to follow the steps on the box on how to use it. It adds five extra minutes to my routine, as I stand there pushing the button, but when you remember that you have to take the dropper out first, press the button, insert the dropper back in, and then release the button, the dropper will fill up with serum, and you’ll be good to go.
