How far would you be willing to go in the name of perfect skin? That question was the overarching theme of a recent survey conducted by prescription skincare brand Curology in an effort to find out just how heavy acne weighs on the self-esteem of women across the country. After polling 1000 women ages 18 to 44, the results were very telling: Many would be willing to make pretty drastic alterations to their lifestyles if it meant they could have clear skin all the time.

Nearly 60% of the women who responded said they would rather have their period on their wedding day than a breakout. (A bold choice if you're going for traditional white.)

20% of women would be willing to pay $100 a month for 10 years—the equivalent of $12,000—if it meant they would never have a breakout again. Since that's cheaper than many gym memberships, maybe it's not totally unreasonable.

44% of women said they would gain 10 pounds, take a pay cut, or give up sex for six months if it meant they would have perfect skin.

Suffice to say that many women consider blemishes to be a huge confidence-buster—in fact, nearly 40% of the women surveyed admitted to feeling anxiety in the workplace due to acne. And we certainly aren't immune to the dread of a hormonal breakout or a painful cyst (usually at the most inconvenient time possible). This exact subject was the topic of a (very) honest roundtable discussion we held among our editors last year.

But even when it's easy to feel hopeless, know that for all the frustratingly random reasons acne surfaces, there are more solutions and products than ever to effectively diminish your breakouts—sometimes in a matter of hours. Shop some of our favorite acne-busting products below.
