"Most of my makeup career has been based on thinking, 'Why not?'" said Shiseido's Dick Page backstage at Michael Kors' S/S 13 runway show this week. Kors, however, has built his career on classics. The boldest makeup statement on a Kors runway is usually a pink cheek or an extra swipe of highlighter. But this week, the designer let Page have a bit more fun. "He showed me the inspiration board," Page said, "and I'd done about half the pictures on there so I said, 'I can do that!'"Page used Shiseido's Luminizing Satin Eye Color Trio
($33) in Jungle and Punky Blues to mirror the Kelly green and cobalt in Kors' collection. "It's a little bit '60s, possibly '90s," Page said. "Ideally you just think they look cool." He swept Shiseido's Luminizing Satin Face Color
($30) in High Beam White right above the lash line to make the eyelashes pop before brushing on the color with an angled brush.
It turns out Page barely pulled it off: "It's very different for Michael and he did say he had a freakout the other night, like 'What was I thinking?'" That thin stripe of color, however, is surprisingly fitting for Kors--cool enough for the runway, but easy enough to pull off in real life.
